Schoodic Woods Campground opened in 2015 as the only mainland campground in Acadia National Park. Situated 1.5 miles southeast of Winter Harbor on the Schoodic Peninsula, it offers a less crowded alternative to the Mount Desert Island campgrounds while still providing easy access to the park's scenic attractions. All sites are wooded and within a 15-minute walk of the ocean. The campground has 89 reservable sites across several loops. A-Loop sites feature 20-amp electric hookups, while B-Loop sites have electric (20/30/50 amp) plus water hookups. Standard electric sites run $30/night, RV electric-only sites $36, and RV sites with electric and water $40. Primitive hike-in sites are available for $22, and group tent sites for $60. All sites except hike-in have fire rings and ADA-accessible picnic tables. Flush toilets, potable water, a dump station, and seasonal wifi are available. The six-mile one-way Schoodic Loop Road passes by the campground and leads to Schoodic Point with spectacular views of Mount Desert Island. Over eight miles of hiking trails and eight miles of bike paths are accessible from the campground. The Island Explorer shuttle provides free seasonal service from late May through mid-October.

Directions

From Bangor, take Route 1A east to Ellsworth. Head north on US Route 1 for 17.3 miles to Hwy 186. Turn right on Hwy 186 and drive 6.5 miles. Turn left at the yield sign, continue 0.5 miles, then turn right on Schoodic Loop Road. The campground is 1 mile on the left.
