About

Seawall Campground sits on the west side of Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park, often called the "quiet side" for its more secluded atmosphere compared to Bar Harbor. All 202 wooded campsites are within a 10-minute walk to the rocky Atlantic coastline where a historic seawall of cobblestones lines the shore. The campground features multiple loops with tent-only sites, standard sites, RV sites, and walk-in sites. RV access can be challenging due to tight turning radii in Loop A, with maximum lengths of 20 to 35 feet depending on the site. The campground provides flush toilets, running water, a dump station, picnic tables, and fire rings. No showers are available on-site, but private vendors offer pay showers less than a mile away. A ranger station and amphitheater host interpretive programs throughout the season. Nearby attractions include Echo Lake for swimming and paddling, quiet hiking trails on the west side of the island, and the scenic 27-mile park loop road. The Island Explorer shuttle bus serves the campground during peak season, allowing easy access to the park without a vehicle.

Directions

From Boston, take I-95 north to Augusta, then Route 3 east to Ellsworth and Mount Desert Island. Alternatively, continue I-95 north to Bangor, then Route 1A east to Ellsworth. Keep right on Route 102 through Bass Harbor, then keep left onto Route 102A. The campground entrance is on the left in approximately 2.4 miles.
