Air Quality Alert issued July 2 at 3:15PM EDT by NWS Caribou ME

3:15 PM — July 6th, 12:00 AM

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Air Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for particle pollution from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Sunday night. Particle pollution levels are expected to rise into the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range periodically during the weekend. People are advised to follow the health message if visibility is poor or they can smell smoke. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young, older adults, those who work outdoors, those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma, and those with heart disease. It is okay to be active outdoors. But if you experience symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, throat irritation or an uncomfortable sensation in your chest, please consider limiting the intensity and duration of your outdoor activities. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so Maine residents can stay informed on the air quality situations. The toll free number is: 1-800-223-1196. Additionally the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has the air quality forecast available on the web at www.maine.gov/dep/air/aqforecast.

About

Lamoine State Park sits on 55 acres along the rocky shores of Frenchman Bay in Downeast Maine. The campground offers 61 single-family sites arranged in loops descending from higher ground to the waterfront. Sites at the top of the campground tend to be grassier with more sun exposure, while those closer to the water provide more shade and tree cover. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and grate. Facilities include a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers, additional vault toilets throughout the campground, potable water from spigots, and a dump station near the entrance. There is one ADA-accessible site. The park accommodates RVs and trailers up to 35 feet, though some sources indicate the park can handle units up to 45 feet depending on the specific site. Beyond camping, Lamoine offers a trailered boat launch for exploring Frenchman Bay by kayak, canoe, or motorboat. The park also features a picnic area, playground, and day-use beach access. Its location 8 miles southeast of Ellsworth makes it a quieter, more affordable alternative to staying directly in Acadia National Park while still providing convenient access to Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, and the surrounding Downeast coast.

Directions

From Ellsworth, take Route 184 southeast for 8 miles to the park entrance at 23 State Park Road, Lamoine.
