About
Jackrabbit Mountain Campground offers scenic lakeside camping on a wooded peninsula of Lake Chatuge in southwestern North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest. The campground features 96 well-maintained sites spread across three separate loops, with many sites offering waterfront views and direct access to the lake's edge. Set in a mixed deciduous and pine forest at 1,860 feet elevation, the facility provides a perfect base for water sports and mountain recreation. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water from hand pumps, and picnic shelters. A swimming beach operates during the main season, and a boat ramp provides easy access to Lake Chatuge's 130 miles of shoreline for boating, jet skiing, sailing, and fishing. On land, visitors can explore several hiking trails, enjoy easy biking on paved campground roads, or tackle approximately 14 miles of mountain bike trails. Nearby attractions include the Fires Creek recreation area and the annual Georgia Mountain State Fair in late July.
Directions
From Hayesville, North Carolina, take U.S. Highway 64 east for 6.2 miles. Turn right onto State Route 175 and go 2.5 miles. Turn right onto State Road 1155, which turns into Forest Road 248. From Hiawassee, Georgia, take Georgia Route 75 north for about 3.5 miles, where it turns into North Carolina Route 175, and go an additional 1.5 miles. Turn left onto State Road 1155, which turns into Forest Service Road 248.
