About

Hunters Camp provides a rugged, no-frills camping experience in the Fires Creek Backcountry Area of western North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest. Managed by the Tusquitee Ranger District, this primitive camp serves hunters and outdoor recreationists seeking access to the remote Fires Creek watershed and surrounding backcountry trails. The site operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees or reservations required. Facilities are minimal, consisting only of vault toilets. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. This is true primitive camping suited for self-sufficient visitors comfortable with backcountry conditions. The surrounding Fires Creek area offers opportunities for hunting, hiking, and exploring the Nantahala National Forest's diverse hardwood forests and mountain streams. The nearby Fires Creek Rim Trail provides access to the backcountry for day hikes or extended trips.
