A strong cold front will sweep across the Inland Northwest Saturday. Very warm dry conditions and gusty winds will contribute to rapid fire spread for any new or ongoing fires. * Affected Area: Northern and Central Idaho Panhandle (Zone 101), Okanogan Highlands and Kettle Mountains (Zone 699), Selkirk Mountains of Northeast Washington (Zone 700) and Foothills of Northeast Washington (Zone 701). * Winds: Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * Relative Humidities: 15 to 27 percent. * Impacts: Rapid fire spread is expected with any new or ongoing fires.

An Air Quality Alert has been issued by the following agencies: Washington Department of Ecology Colville Confederated Tribes Environmental Protection Agency Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency An Air Quality Alert has been issued for Asotin, Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, and Stevens Counties until further notice due to current and expected wildfire smoke from regional fires. Extremely critical fire weather Saturday will produce significant smoke from ongoing and emerging fires. Particulate matter (PM2.5) may reach unhealthy levels through the weekend, especially in areas downwind from active wildfires in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. An Air Quality Alert has also been issued for Grant, Lincoln, and Spokane counties until further notice due to expected smoke impacts from ongoing and emerging fires. Shifting winds will likely bring smoke into these counties beginning Saturday evening. PM2.5 may reach unhealthy levels. When air quality is unhealthy, everyone should reduce exposure. Limit time outside, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, and follow tips for cleaner indoor air.

About
Panhandle Campground sits in a heavily forested area along the east bank of the Pend Oreille River, about 30 miles north of Newport, Washington. The campground's 12 sites feature a thick middlestory of vegetation providing good privacy between campsites, with many within walking distance of the river. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings. A boat ramp and swimming area are located on-site. The Pend Oreille River offers excellent fishing for bass and trout (Washington fishing license required) as well as canoeing and power boating up to 35 mph. Small wetlands at the south end of the campground attract abundant birdlife. Bears and cougars are present in the area, so all food must be secured properly. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. The campground operates from mid-May through Labor Day weekend, with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and check-out at noon. Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and maximum stay is 14 days.
Directions
From Newport, WA: Follow State Highway 20 north for 15 miles to the town of Usk. Cross the bridge over the Pend Oreille River on the east edge of town. Turn north onto LeClerc Road (County Road 9325) and follow it for 15 miles to the campground entrance.
