About
Red Cliff Campground sits along the Gallatin River in the heart of scenic Gallatin Canyon, on the Bozeman Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest. At an elevation of 6,200 feet, the campground offers 67 sites nestled among scattered pine and fir trees, with some sites in open meadows further from the river. The facility provides both electric and non-electric single-family campsites, with several accessible sites available. The Gallatin River provides excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout, whitefish and Arctic grayling. The river is also popular for rafting and kayaking. The Elkhorn Creek Trail, suitable for hiking and horseback riding, begins at the south end of the campground. Wildlife viewing is exceptional in this canyon, with opportunities to spot bald eagles, bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goats, deer, and coyotes. Black and grizzly bears also inhabit the area, so proper food storage is required. Located 46 miles south of Bozeman and 45 miles north of West Yellowstone on Highway 191, the campground serves as an ideal base for exploring Yellowstone National Park. The west entrance to the park and the town of West Yellowstone, home to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center, are within easy day-trip distance.
