Blackwoods Campground is Acadia National Park's most popular camping destination, located on the east side of Mount Desert Island approximately 5 miles south of Bar Harbor off Route 3. All sites are nestled in a dense forest of spruce and fir, yet within a 10-minute walk of the rocky Atlantic coastline. The campground offers 281 sites split between A-Loop and B-Loop, accommodating everything from small tents to RVs up to 35 feet in length. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, a dump station, and paved roads throughout. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There are no showers on-site, but fee-operated showers are available half a mile away in Otter Creek. The campground has 12 ADA-accessible sites with hard-packed pathways to restrooms and the amphitheater. No hookups are available. The location provides convenient access to Park Loop Road and popular destinations like Thunder Hole, Sand Beach, and Cadillac Mountain. The free Island Explorer shuttle stops at the campground from late June through mid-October, connecting to Bar Harbor and trailheads throughout the park.

Directions

The entrance to Blackwoods Campground is off State Highway 3, six miles south of Bar Harbor. There is no entrance from Park Loop Road. Be aware of height restrictions for RVs; Park Loop Road has several low bridges with clearances under 10 feet 4 inches.
