...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Minnesota... South Kawishiwi River near Ely affecting northwestern Lake County. .High water continues on the Kawishiwi River due to the effects of recent heavy rains and the last of ongoing snowmelt. Expect high, fast moving water through the Kawishiwi River, Isabella River, and Basswood River. Lake levels across the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area will be high. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and remains forecast. * WHERE...South Kawishiwi River near Ely. * WHEN...From this evening to early Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 7.0 feet, Several BWCA camp sites may be submerged. Portages may have flowing water difficult to identify. Areas with swift currents may be hazardous to recreationalists. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:30 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 6.5 feet. - Bankfull stage is 5.5 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM CDT Wednesday was 6.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 7.1 feet Friday evening. * WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues. * WHERE...In Minnesota, Cook and Lake Counties. * WHEN...Until 700 PM CDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River or stream flows are elevated. Flooding is occurring on area rivers that are popular for waterfall viewing. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 655 PM CDT Tuesday, river gauges continue to suggest that there are areas of high water and localized minor flooding from Monday's rainfall. No additional rainfall is expected. One to two inches of rain that has already fallen and snowmelt runoff in Cook County will keep river levels elevated today. The Baptism River and Beaver River in Lake County are also experiencing high flows today due to runoff from the one to two inches of rainfall yesterday and last night. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Grand Marais, Gunflint Lake, Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Grand Portage, Clear Lake, Lutsen, Tofte, Beaver Bay, Dumbbell Lake, Forest Center, Temperance River State Park, George Manitou State Park, Taconite Harbor, Sugar Loaf Cove, Isabella, Little Saganaga Lake, Little Marais, Finland and Alpine Lake. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood.
