Wiley's Well Campground

Open

Open for free camping with a 14-day limit during the off-season (April 16 through September 14). LTVA permits are required September 15 through April 15, with long-term permits at $180 for the season or short-visit permits at $40 for 14 days.

About

Wiley's Well Campground is part of the Mule Mountain Long Term Visitor Area (LTVA), managed by the BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office. Located in the lower Colorado Desert of eastern Riverside County, the campground features 15 designated sites nestled adjacent to a desert riparian wash populated by palo verde, smoke tree, mesquite, and ironwood trees. The area is renowned for rock-hounding, with easy 4-wheel drive access to the Hauser Geode Beds and Opal Hill Fire Agate Mine. The historic Bradshaw Trail National Scenic Byway provides access to numerous trails, gem and mineral collection sites, and an historic stage route and mining area. Unlike open desert LTVAs, camping at Mule Mountain is restricted to designated sites within Wiley's Well and Coon Hollow campgrounds. Only one camping or dwelling unit is permitted per site, and vehicles must remain mobile with wheels intact. A camp host is present during peak season.

Directions

Take I-10 to Wiley's Well Road (Exit 222) and head south for 3 miles. The paved road ends and turns right toward state prisons; continue south on the graded dirt road to the left. The campground is 6 miles south on this graded road.
