Open year-round. Between October 1 and April 30, showers, flush toilets, and water systems may be closed; vault toilets remain available. A zebra mussel alert is in effect for Lake Sharpe requiring all watercraft to be cleaned, drained, and dried before moving.

About
Excellent walleye and small mouth bass fishing is supported by a relatively stable lake level and cool water temperatures at West Bend Recreation Area. With most fishing done from boats, the protected marina offers convenient boat launching, regardless of the wind direction. In the autumn, hunters use this as a base camp to hunt pheasant and Canadian geese. No matter the weather, camping cabins provide comfortable accommodations year-round at West Bend Recreation Area. The one-room cabins can be reserved online, with the convenient system in place. Four people can sleep in the cabin with the two bunk beds and double bed provided. Heating, air conditioning and electricity are included, as well as an outdoor fire grate and picnic table. Campsites on the grounds can also be reserved online. Electric sites are available, and the restrooms come with showers and flush toilets. West Bend Recreation Area is one of the South Dakota parks along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Other nearby parks are the Farm Island Recreation Area and the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area. West Bend Recreation Area counts among its amenities a boat ramp, beach, fish-cleaning station, playground, ski beach and Wi-Fi. Boat and camper storage is available at West Bend Recreation Area between April 30 and September 30.

From Pierre, head east on SD Highway 34 for approximately 35 miles, then turn north following signs to West Bend Recreation Area at 22154 West Bend Road, Harrold, SD 57536.
