About

Jo Bonner Campground sits at the northeastern end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, 30 miles east of Helena, Montana, nestled between the Big Belt and Elkhorn mountain ranges. Named for Josephine Agnes Martin Bonner (1907-1965) by Montana Governor John Bonner (1902-1970), this small Bureau of Reclamation campground offers a peaceful retreat with convenient access to one of Montana's premier water recreation destinations. The campground features 17 designated campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. During the recreation season, amenities include two vault toilets, potable water, trash service, and a campground host. A gravel boat launch with a courtesy dock is located just outside the campground, providing easy water access. Sites are reservable through Recreation.gov, with check-in at 5:00 PM and checkout at 4:00 PM. Canyon Ferry Reservoir offers year-round recreational opportunities including swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, jet skiing, and windsurfing in summer, while winter draws ice fishermen, ice boaters, and ice skaters. The location serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding mountain ranges and lies halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.
