About
Sam Tobias Memorial Group Campground (formerly Cedar Creek Campground) is a reservation-only group camping facility located in Lincoln National Forest, just outside Ruidoso, New Mexico. Situated along Cedar Creek at a 7,000-foot elevation, the campground offers three group sites designed for 60, 80, and 100 people. The campground was renamed in honor of Sam Tobias, a local firefighter who died in the line of duty during the summer of 2000. Each group campsite comes equipped with accessible picnic shelters, campfire rings, drinking water, vault toilets, grills, and picnic tables. The facilities are designed to accommodate both tent and RV camping. A separate day-use picnic pavilion with capacity for 40 people is also available and includes drinking water and accessible vault toilets. The area is ideal for outdoor recreation, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing. The T90 Fitness Trail extends 1.3 miles and includes exercise stations. Mountain biking trails T120 A-D and T121 A & B are nearby, along with an expert-only downhill mountain bike trail. Visitors may spot mule deer and elk in the surrounding forest. Dogs must be kept on leash at all times while hiking and are not allowed on the Fitness Trail. The campground's proximity to Ruidoso provides easy access to shops, restaurants, and art galleries.
