About

Bluewater Lake State Park is a high-desert camping destination in northwestern New Mexico, perched at 7,400 feet elevation about 28 miles west of Grants. The park surrounds a 1,200-acre reservoir created by the damming of Bluewater Creek, offering 149 developed campsites spread across multiple campground loops. Sites range from primitive non-electric spots at Canyonside and Pinon Cliff to full 30-amp electric hookups at the Upper and Lower Electric Loops. Lakeside and Northpoint campgrounds provide shoreline access, and boat-in camping is also available. The park offers modern amenities including restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, vault toilets throughout the campgrounds, an RV dump station, playground, and visitor center. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 50-60 feet with pull-through driveways available. Bluewater Lake is one of New Mexico's premier tiger muskie fisheries and also supports rainbow trout, channel catfish, and largemouth bass. Additional activities include hiking, birding, horseback riding, and winter ice fishing when conditions permit. Reservations are accepted May 15 through September 15, with half of sites held for first-come-first-served. During winter months all sites become first-come-first-served only. An EV charging station is available at the park.
