About

Quaking Aspen Campground sits in a shaded grove of quaking aspen and mature ponderosa pine trees in the Zuni Mountains of western New Mexico. The elevation and forest cover provide welcome relief from summer heat in the surrounding desert lowlands. The campground is managed by the Mt. Taylor Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest. This is a primitive, first-come, first-served campground with basic amenities. Each site has a picnic table and vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water on site, so campers must bring an adequate supply. The campground is accessible via State Route 400, approximately 6 miles south of the historic Fort Wingate community. Recreation opportunities in the area include hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails. The campground operates seasonally from May 1 through October 15 and has a 14-day stay limit. Trailer length is restricted to under 22 feet due to site and road limitations.

Directions

From I-40, take Exit 33 (Fort Wingate). Drive south through Fort Wingate and continue approximately 6 miles on SR 400. The campground entrance is on the west side of the road.
