About
Pinon Group Sites are located within Pinon Campground at Quemado Lake Recreation Area in the Gila National Forest. The group camping loop offers two reservable group sites designed for larger gatherings, with one site accommodating up to 30 people and another accommodating up to 75 people. The campsites are nestled among mature pinon and juniper trees, providing shade and a tranquil mountain setting at 7,899 feet elevation. The campground is situated less than 2 miles from Quemado Lake, a 130-acre reservoir offering fishing and boating opportunities. Several hiking trails are accessible from the recreation area, including lakeside trails. The campground provides vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. A dump station is available when the campground is open for $15 per use. Important regulations include a 14-day stay limit, prohibition of horses in the campground and recreation area, leash requirements for pets, and fires permitted only in designated fire rings. Hunting and target shooting are prohibited within the Quemado Lake Recreation Area.
Directions
From Quemado, NM, take NM 32 south for approximately 14 miles to the Quemado Lake/NM 103 sign. Turn left onto NM 103 and continue 4 miles to Forest Road 13. Proceed straight on Forest Road 13 for 1.4 miles to reach Piñon Campground on the left.
