Lake Ahquabi State Park is a popular south-central Iowa destination dedicated in 1936, featuring historic Civilian Conservation Corps structures including a stone lodge and picnic shelters. The park's centerpiece is its tranquil no-wake lake surrounded by natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The lakeside campground accommodates 141 campsites, with 85 sites offering electrical hookups and additional full hookup sites available. Modern restrooms with showers, two dump stations, and picnic tables and fire rings at every site provide comfortable camping amenities. All campsites are reservable through the online system, and reservations are required. Recreational activities abound at Lake Ahquabi. The sandy swimming beach is staffed with concessions from Memorial Day through Labor Day, offering boat, kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals, along with organized paddling tours and lessons. Anglers fish for largemouth bass, channel catfish, and panfish from the shoreline, accessible fishing pier, or one of thirteen fishing jetties. The park features over six miles of multi-use trails perfect for hiking, biking, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Day visitors enjoy the historic CCC-era stone lodge and open picnic shelters, making the park ideal for family gatherings and special events.

Directions

From Indianola, take U.S. Highway 65/69 south for approximately 5 miles to the junction of Highways 65 and 69. Turn west onto Warren County Highway G58 and continue for about 1 mile to the main park entrance.
