About

Walnut Woods State Park provides an accessible woodland camping experience along the scenic Raccoon River in Polk County, Iowa. The campground sits within a mature hardwood forest that offers excellent shade during summer months. All campsites include electric hookups, with eight sites featuring full water, sewer, and electric connections for RV campers. The park's 260 acres include opportunities for river fishing and canoeing, with a boat ramp located on the west end of the park. Bird observation stations, hiking trails, and a playground round out the recreational offerings. A renovated 1930s CCC lodge is available for group events and day use. The campground operates year-round with 100% of sites reservable through ReserveAmerica. Modern flush restrooms and a dump station are available, though there are no showers. The park enforces a 14-night maximum stay within any 30-day period.
