About

Silver Valley Campground is located in the Calaveras Ranger District at the east end of Lake Alpine Recreation Area in Stanislaus National Forest. Situated at 7,400 feet elevation in a timbered setting, the campground provides access to numerous trailheads and recreational opportunities including fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, boating, swimming, rock climbing, and wildlife viewing. Interpretive programs are offered by Forest Service rangers during summer months. The campground features 21 sites with picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, drinking water from spigots, and bear boxes. Each site accommodates up to 6 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles. There are no hookups or electricity. The narrow roads and tight turns with trees and boulders make this campground better suited for tent camping than large RVs. Generator use is limited to 2 hours daily between 8am and 8pm. Nearby Lake Alpine Lodge offers a restaurant, bar, general store, boat rentals, hot showers, and laundromat. Other nearby attractions include Big Trees State Park, Grover Hot Springs, Mercer Caverns, and the wine country of Calaveras County.

Directions

From Angel's Camp, drive approximately 60 miles east on Highway 4 toward Lake Alpine. At the east end of the lake, turn south onto the side road just east of Chickaree Picnic Area and follow the road around to Silver Valley Campground.
