Forest Order - Recreation Sites, Roads, and Trails

The net effect of this order is to reopen Kinnikinnick Campground and Florence Lake Picnic Area (i.e removing them from Exabit A of the Forest Recreation Closure list).

About

Kinnikinnick Campground is located on the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada within Sierra National Forest, directly across from Huntington Lake near the Kaiser Wilderness boundary. The campground occupies a shaded setting beneath mature fir and pine trees at roughly 7,000 feet elevation. The location provides convenient access to Huntington Lake for swimming, sailing, boating, kayaking, and fishing, making it a popular summer destination. The campground contains 27 sites including both single and double configurations, each with a paved parking spur, picnic table, campfire ring, and grill. Accessible flush toilets and drinking water are provided. Numerous hiking trails are accessible from the area, including routes to Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point. The 12-mile Kaiser Loop Trail connects to an extensive trail network within the Kaiser Wilderness for both hikers and equestrians. The Eastwood Visitor Center and Billy Creek Guard Station museum are nearby, offering historical information about Huntington Lake and the Forest Service. The 84-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway (Highway 168) provides an excellent day trip from the Huntington Lake area.
