High Cliff State Park

Overview

High Cliff State Park is a 1,187-acre Wisconsin state park open year-round from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., located near Sherwood in Calumet County. It's the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest inland lake. The park sits along the dramatic limestone cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment on the lake's northeastern shore. The family campground offers 112 sites (32 with electric) plus 8 group sites, open from May through mid-October with campground hosts on sites 58 from April through October. The accessible cabin for people with disabilities is also available May through mid-October. The park features 16 miles of hiking trails (including universally accessible trails), a marina with accessible boarding pier, swimming beach, horseback riding, fishing with accessible platform, hunting (9-day muzzleloader-only gun deer hunt), and winter activities including fat tire biking, snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing. Notable features include the 12-foot statue of Winnebago Chief Red Bird, an observation tower, effigy mounds, historic lime kiln ruins, and former general store site. A vehicle admission sticker is required. Visitors should exercise caution on steep bluffs without barriers, and follow Wisconsin's firewood movement restrictions to prevent tree pests and diseases.
