A few occasional gusts to 34 kts are possible this afternoon and early evening. * WHERE...Tidal Potomac River from Key Bridge to Smith Point VA, and Chesapeake Bay and adjoining estuaries north of Smith Point VA. * WHEN...Until 6 AM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Conditions will be hazardous to small craft.

A few sporadic northwesterly wind gusts to gale force remain possible through the afternoon hours across the northern and central portions of the tidal Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay behind a strong secondary boundary. Inexperienced mariners in small craft should be prepared for hazardous conditions or consider staying in port.

Lighthouse Area Closed

A section of Fort Washington Park, including the area around the Fort Washington Lighthouse and nearby sidewalks, will be closed from 12:00 a.m. on May 9, 2025, through 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2025.

Helicopter Training at Fort Washington Park – June 5

Visitors may see or hear low-flying helicopters in Fort Washington Park on June 5 during a scheduled training exercise; please follow all law enforcement direction on site.

Picnic Area Closure at Fort Washington Park

The D1 Picnic Area will be closed April 15–November 15, 2025, and remain closed afterward per the Superintendent’s Compendium schedule.
