* WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as 35 below expected. * WHERE...Northwest and much of central North Dakota, including the James River Valley. * WHEN...Until 10 AM CST this morning. * IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 35 below could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

To help ensure the safety of visitors and park staff we will be closed Saturday, January 13th and Sunday, January 14th due to extreme cold and dangerous windchill conditions.
Winter Hours: Wednesday - Sunday, 9:00 – 5:00 Central Time and closed Monday - Tuesdays.
Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site will be open Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 – 5:00 Central Time and closed Monday and Tuesdays through 02/23/2025.

Ft. Union Trading Post National Historic Site will be closed on Monday, October 7 due to a planned power outage to upgrade site electrical systems. We apologize for any inconvenience. The park will reopen on Tuesday, October 8, at 9:00AM CT
Fort Union closed 1/11/2025 due to severe winter weather conditions.
FOUS will open 2 hours late tomorrow due to snow and high winds forecasted. Road and site conditions will be evaluated in the morning to determine if a full-day closure is needed. Update 1/11: FOUS will remain closed due to adverse road/weather conditions
Ft. Union Trading Post NHS closed February 19 - February 25 for septic system repairs

Fort Union Closed Through May 16 Due to Ongoing Investigation
Fort Union remains closed, as law enforcement continues its investigation following the safe arrest of a suspect. The fort will reopen to the public Saturday May 17th, 2025.
