About

Valle Tio Vinces Public Corrals is a rustic, partially developed campground located along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail in the remote backcountry of Gila National Forest. Positioned at 8,134 feet elevation, this free campground offers four designated campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The campground features horse corrals with water troughs (water availability depends on conditions) and a vault toilet, making it particularly popular with equestrians, mountain bikers following the Great Divide route, and thru-hikers on the Continental Divide Trail. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. There is no potable water available, so visitors must bring their own. Pack in/pack out rules apply as there is no trash service. Dispersed camping is permitted in the surrounding area for those seeking more solitude. The nearest services are in the small community of Quemado, approximately 9 miles west on US Highway 60, then 22 miles north on Forest Road 214. Elk, mule deer, and black bear are frequently seen in the area, and pronghorn can be spotted in the open lands north of the forest boundary. The campground is limited to two vehicles per site with a 14-day stay limit. OHVs and ATVs are prohibited within the campground, as are hunting and shooting. Stock animals must be kept in the corrals and are not allowed in the immediate camping area.

Directions

From Quemado, go east on US Highway 60 for approximately 9 miles to one mile east of Omega and the brown Valle Tio Vinces sign. Turn south on Forest Road 214 towards Mangas and Valle Tio Vinces. Go south about 22 miles; the campground is on the west side of the road, marked by a sign.
