About

El Caso #3 Campground is part of the El Caso Campgrounds series located at the east end of Quemado Lake in the Gila National Forest. These partially developed campgrounds are nestled in a valley stretching alongside an intermittent stream and surrounded by ponderosa pine and cottonwood trees. The campground sits at 7,700 feet elevation, approximately 0.25 miles east of Piñon Campground. These free campgrounds are popular with hunters, groups, and campers desiring a more primitive experience. The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables and vault toilets, but no potable water is available. Campers must pack in their own water and pack out all trash. The area has a 14-day stay limit and is generally open year-round, though winter storms can make access difficult. Quemado Lake is a 130-acre reservoir with a maximum depth of 55 feet, offering opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking, and wildlife viewing. OHV/ATV use is prohibited within the Quemado Lake Recreation Area. Horses are permitted at El Caso campgrounds, though there are no facilities specifically for horse camping.
