About

Sugarloaf 2 Campground sits in a remote, rustic setting in the northern White Mountains, near the western base of Mount Washington. The campground features 32 well-spaced sites arranged around a large loop, with some perched atop a ridge and others offering mountain views. A grassy field provides space for games and relaxation. The facility is located along the banks of the cold, cascading Ammonoosuc River, surrounded by thick hardwood and pine forests. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the White Mountains. Hiking trails begin at the facility itself, including access to the Zealand Trail system. Mount Washington, New England's highest peak at 6,288 feet, is just minutes away. The Ammonoosuc River offers fishing for brook trout and wading during summer months. The campground is close to Bretton Woods ski resort, the Mount Washington Cog Railway, and the Appalachian Trail. Amenities are basic and rustic. The campground provides vault toilets and a hand pump for water. There is no dump station, and the nearest showers are 10 miles away. The small town of Twin Mountain, 3 miles west, has a general store, gas station, and restaurants. The White Mountain National Forest is home to moose, white-tailed deer, black bear, and nearly 200 bird species including the rare Bicknell's Thrush.
