About
Rio Grande Village Campground occupies one of the most scenic locations in Big Bend National Park, situated along the Rio Grande with dramatic views of Mexico's Sierra del Carmen Mountains that glow red and orange at sunset. The campground's 100 sites range from intimate tent spots to large pull-through sites accommodating 40-ft motorhomes. Each site includes a picnic table, charcoal grill, and bear-proof food storage locker; some sites also have shade shelters. Flush toilets and potable water spigots are accessible from all sites, and a dump station is available at the campground entrance. The surrounding area offers exceptional recreation opportunities. The Rio Grande put-in provides easy access for canoeing and kayaking, while the riverbanks attract birders seeking species found only in Big Bend. Nearby attractions include Boquillas Canyon Trail, the Hot Springs Historic District, the Marufo Vega Loop, and Daniels Ranch. The Boquillas Crossing Port of Entry into Mexico is a 5-minute drive away. Campers should be aware that this is one of the hottest locations in the park. From April through September, daytime highs regularly exceed 100-107°F. Winter months (November through March) offer much more comfortable temperatures in the mid-70s to low 80s. As an International Dark Sky Park, outdoor lighting is restricted between 10 PM and 6 AM. High winds are common, and the grassy areas are subject to periodic flood irrigation.
