San Elijo State Beach Campground is located along the San Diego Coast in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, providing one of Southern California's premier coastal camping experiences. The campground sits atop scenic bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering approximately 165 campsites with a mix of RV hookup sites and standard non-hookup sites. Sites feature tables and have access to flush restrooms with showers, though sites themselves offer limited shade. The beach below is accessible via stairs from the campground and is popular for swimming, surfing, boogie-boarding, and skim-boarding. A nearby reef attracts snorkelers and divers. The narrow stretch of sand extends along Coast Highway 101 for about three-quarters of a mile north from San Elijo Lagoon's entrance channel. The campground includes modern amenities such as a dump station, outdoor showers, drinking water, and wheelchair-accessible facilities. RV sites with hookups accommodate rigs up to 24 feet, while non-hookup sites can handle up to 35 feet. Reservations fill quickly, especially during high season and holidays, and are available on a rolling basis six months in advance through ReserveCalifornia. Check-in time is 2:00 PM with no early check-in available.

Exit Interstate 5 at Encinitas Boulevard and head west. Turn left on South Coast Highway and follow it south for about 2 miles. The campground is located at 2050 South Coast Highway 101 in Cardiff.
