About
North Crestone Creek Campground is a rustic mountain campground in Rio Grande National Forest that stretches 0.7 mile along North Crestone Creek. The 13 first-come, first-served sites are nestled among aspen, juniper, fir, and other riparian trees at elevations ranging up the mountainside. Each site is positioned far apart from the others, creating a secluded wilderness camping experience despite being relatively accessible. The campground includes one pull-through site, with all sites featuring fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets are available, but there is no drinking water on-site. At the top of the campground, North Crestone Creek Trail provides access to the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the interesting town of Crestone and accessing nearby recreational opportunities including a public golf course. The scenic location along the creek and the heavily spaced sites make this a popular destination, particularly for tent campers and smaller RVs seeking a more primitive mountain camping experience in south-central Colorado.
Directions
From Alamosa, take Highway 17 north to Moffat. Take County Road T east to Crestone. In Crestone, at the intersection of Galena and Alder Streets, take Alder Street north 1.3 miles to the campground.
