Look Rock Campground

Look Rock Campground reopened in 2024 after a nine-year closure and occupies a prime location along Foothills Parkway West between Walland, Tennessee and Chilhowee Lake. At 2,600 feet elevation, the campground offers a cooler high-country setting with a mature wooded landscape. The 68 campsites include 10 with electric (50 amp) and water hookups, while all sites feature fire rings and picnic tables. Flush toilets and potable water are available seasonally, along with a dump station. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the western side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Look Rock observation tower is nearby, providing panoramic views of the Smokies. Chilhowee, Calderwood, and Cheoah Lakes are a short drive away for fishing and boating. State Route 129, known as the Tail of the Dragon with its 318 curves in 11 miles, attracts motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts. Cades Cove, one of the park's most popular destinations, is accessible from the campground. Bear activity is high in this area, requiring proper food storage in vehicles or hard-sided containers. Heat-treated USDA-certified firewood is mandatory. Cell phone coverage is extremely limited, so reservations must be made before arrival. Sites accommodate a range of equipment from tents to large RVs up to 48 feet on select sites.

Directions

From Maryville, TN: Take US-321 North from Maryville to Walland, TN. Turn right onto Foothills Parkway West (signs for Look Rock/US-129), about 9.5 miles to campground. Avoid GPS directions via Montavale Rd, Happy Valley Rd, or Flats Rd if towing a trailer.
