Grizzly Creek Redwoods Sp River Campground

Open

Open for the summer season. The campground operates from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Reservations available through ReserveCalifornia; some sites available first-come, first-served.

About

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park is a hidden gem among California's redwood parks, offering old-growth groves without the crowds found at more famous coastal locations. The River Campground's 28 sites are arranged along the scenic Van Duzen River, 17 miles inland from Highway 101. The forested setting provides natural shade and privacy, with massive redwoods creating a cathedral-like atmosphere throughout the camping area. The park centers around the confluence of Grizzly Creek and the Van Duzen River, creating a popular swimming hole near the visitor center and campground. Summer weekends feature ranger-led campfire programs, nature walks, and Junior Ranger activities from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Cheatham Grove Trail offers a 0.6-mile accessible loop through pristine old-growth forest with a compacted native soil surface. Campsites are best suited for tent camping and smaller RVs, with a maximum length of 24 feet for trailers and motorhomes. The campground lacks hookups and dump stations, maintaining a more primitive character consistent with the natural setting. Two sites are designated accessible with paved surfaces, though the terrain has some slopes. Dogs are allowed in the campground but prohibited on trails except for service animals.
