About

Coyote Group Campground is located on the northeast end of French Meadows Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest, about 40 miles from Foresthill in a remote area. The group sites are situated in a coniferous forest at 5,200 feet elevation, offering warm summer days and cool nights. Each site can accommodate RVs or tents and includes cooking grills, campfire rings with benches, serving and eating tables, and ample tent space. The Middle Fork of American River and French Meadows Reservoir provide excellent opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, and canoeing. Two boat ramps are located within three miles of the campground. The area offers access to numerous hiking and biking trails, including routes into the nearby Granite Chief Wilderness with its historic aspen stands and secluded mountain passes. The Western States Trail is accessible for hiking, horseback riding, dirt biking, and mountain biking. This is an extremely remote campground with no services available beyond Foresthill. High clearance vehicles are recommended, and access from Soda Springs is not recommended for trailers, motorhomes, or standard passenger vehicles. Visitors should ensure they have a full tank of gas and adequate supplies before traveling beyond Foresthill.
