About

Armijo Springs Campground is a secluded quiet campground off the beaten path in the Gila National Forest, yet it is not too far from Quemado Lake. It is nestled among ponderosa pines and some oak trees which provide shade and make even the hottest summer day cool and bearable. There is a natural spring nearby, though water availability and quality cannot be relied upon. This partially developed campground features 5 designated sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring, plus ample space for dispersed camping and group activities like volleyball and horseshoes. The area is large enough to accommodate full-sized RVs, with a firm access road and ample parking. At 7,850 feet elevation, the campground offers a peaceful mountain setting with opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, and horseback riding. As a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility, campers must bring their own water and remove all trash. The nearest towns with gas and small general stores are Quemado (18 miles north) and Apache Creek. ATVs must be licensed and OHV use is prohibited within the campground.

Directions

From Quemado, go south on New Mexico Highway 32 approximately 18 miles to Forest Road 854. Turn east and continue approximately 4 miles. Forest Road 854 is not well marked on Highway 32, but a large brown sign for the campground is visible to the east of the intersection.
