About

Armijo Springs Campground offers a secluded camping experience in the Gila National Forest, tucked among ponderosa pines and oak trees that provide welcome shade during summer months. Located not far from Quemado Lake, it strikes a balance between accessibility and remoteness. A natural spring nearby adds to the area's appeal. The campground is well-suited for group activities, with space for volleyball and horseshoes. While there are no designated hiking trails immediately adjacent, the low vehicle traffic on surrounding forest roads makes them suitable for casual hiking. Each site has a picnic table, and vault toilets are available. This is a primitive campground with no potable water, trash service, hookups, or dump station. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. Trailers up to 35 feet can be accommodated, but RVs must be fully self-contained. The campground is free to use, operates first-come first-served, and has a 14-day stay limit.

Directions

From Quemado, go south on NM Highway 32 approximately 18 miles to Forest Road 854. Turn east and continue approximately 4 miles. FR 854 is not well marked on Highway 32, but a large brown campground sign is visible to the east of the intersection.
