About

North Boulder Lake Campground is a small, primitive Bureau of Land Management facility located on the northwest shore of Boulder Lake, approximately 18 miles south of Pinedale in the Wind River Range. Situated at 7,300 feet elevation among lodgepole pines and aspens, the campground offers five developed sites, each with a fire ring and picnic table, plus one double vault toilet serving all campers. This free, first-come, first-served campground operates seasonally from late May through mid-September, weather permitting. The remote location provides a quiet base camp for anglers targeting Boulder Lake's trout populations, boaters exploring the three miles of shoreline, and hikers venturing into surrounding BLM and Forest Service lands. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with the area supporting moose, elk, deer, and diverse bird species. Access requires navigating 7 miles on Burnt Lake Road, a gravel route that becomes impassable during winter and early spring due to snow. The campground enforces a 14-day stay limit and allows a maximum of two vehicles per site. Campers should come prepared with their own water, as none is available on-site, and practice pack-in, pack-out principles. Winter typically brings heavy snowfall and frigid temperatures, rendering the area inaccessible until late spring snowmelt.

Directions

From Pinedale, drive south on US Highway 191 for approximately 11 miles, then turn left onto Burnt Lake Road and continue north for 7 miles to the campground on the northwest end of Boulder Lake.
