About

Apache Maid Cabin offers a unique overnight experience in a piece of Arizona history. Built in 1909 by Charles Babbitt as a cattle ranch house, the cabin later served as a U.S. Forest Service ranger station before being restored and opened for public rental. The 520 square-foot structure sits at 6,382 feet in the shade of ponderosa pines, just south of the Mogollon Rim. The cabin accommodates up to 6 overnight guests with a bedroom containing a bunk bed (double on bottom, twin on top) and a rollaway bed, plus a futon couch in the living room. The kitchen includes a propane stove with dishes and cookware but no refrigerator. Propane heating keeps the cabin comfortable, while solar-powered overhead lights provide limited illumination with no electrical outlets available. An outdoor vault toilet is located approximately 50 yards from the cabin. Guests must bring all potable water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning, as well as bedding, towels, food, flashlights, and an axe for the outdoor fire pit. A propane grill and picnic tables are available outside. The cabin is accessible by passenger car in good weather, though high-clearance vehicles are recommended and 4WD is required during inclement conditions. Stoneman Lake, Beaver Creek, and Sedona's red rock country are all within an hour's drive.
