Big Pine Creek Campground occupies a scenic setting in Big Pine Canyon at 7,700 feet elevation, nestled among Jeffrey pines, sagebrush, aspens, and cottonwoods along the cool waters of Big Pine Creek. The creek and nearby Big Pine Lakes offer rainbow, brown, and brook trout fishing. All 30 campsites include fire rings, picnic tables, and bear-proof food storage containers. Big Pine Canyon is renowned for containing both the largest and southernmost glaciers in the Sierra Nevada. The North Fork Trail departs from the area and climbs past waterfalls through pine and manzanita to Big Pine Lakes and the Palisade Glacier at around 10,000 feet. A commercial pack station operates nearby for those seeking horse-supported adventures. This is a dry campground with no potable water available. Campers must bring their own water or filter from natural sources. Pay showers and a general store are available at a nearby resort. The campground enforces a 14-day maximum stay and requires all food be stored in provided bear boxes when not attended.
Directions
From Highway 395, turn west on Crocker Street in Big Pine and continue 8 miles up Big Pine Canyon Road. At road's end, turn left across Big Pine Creek and follow signs to the campground (approximately 50 yards).
