Brochure InfoOriginally carved out of the Turkey Track Ranch in 1927, Meade State Park rests in the High Plains of southwest Kansas. The state park and wildlife area comprise 803 acres of land and water and are situated just west of the Red Hills, about 8 miles south and 5 miles west of Meade on Highway 23. Overnight camping is available and visitors may choose from 54 primitive sites or 42 water and electric sites. Sewer is not provided, but a dump station is available for year round use. The lake is surrounded by many trees that provide shade for camping or picnicking. In the 80-acre lake, bluegill, crappie, channel cat, and largemouth bass are plentiful and provide excellent opportunities for avid anglers. A boat dock is available for unloading boats. No skiing or pleasure boating is allowed and all boats must be operated at no-wake speeds. A swimming beach area has been marked off. While small, the 360-acre wildlife area offers good opportunities for dove and quail hunters. Deer, turkey, rabbit, and some waterfowl also inhabit the area and offer hunters an occasional mixed bag. Deer may be hunted with bow, muzzle loading and center fire firearms. For nature lovers who like to identify various trees, grasses, flowers, and birds, a nature trail has been marked at the northwest corner of the lake. Meade State Park is pleased to offer guests a Visitor Center that can host a wide variety of events. Information can be obtained at the park office. Please check posted notices for other rules and regulations.Key InfoYou must be 18 or older to rent a cabin or campsite. Subject to regulations and posted notices, any individual over 21 may possess, consume, or drink alcoholic liquor. Kegs and party balls are strictly prohibited. Electric and gas powered scooters, ATV¿s and skateboards cannot be operated in the state park. Camping is allowed only in designated areas and is subject to posted restrictions. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of no more than 14 consecutive days although a 14-day extension may be obtained with written permission from the park manager. A five-day absence is required before returning to the park to camp again. Any property left unused or unoccupied for 48 hours is subject to removal. Only one camper/RV per utility site is allowed. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills only. Fires must be fully extinguished prior to leaving the area. Swimming is allowed in designated areas. Liquor and beer are prohibited on swimming beaches or in waters designated by buoys or other markers as swimming areas. For other beverages, only shatterproof containers are allowed. Pets must always be restrained by a camper, cage, hand-held leash, or tethered chain no longer than 10 feet. They are not allowed on swimming beaches or swimming areas that are noted by buoys or other markers or in public buildings or structures. Dogs participating in authorized activities or assisting the visually or hearing impaired are not subject to these restrictions. A special event permit is required for any event involving entrance fees, exclusive use of an area, sales, organized competition, amplified sound, or reservation of a specific site or facility. Check with the park office for details. Fishing is prohibited on boat ramps, courtesy docks, swimming beaches, and in swimming areas marked with buoys. In state parks, fish may only be cleaned at designated fish cleaning stations or other locations as posted. Boats may not operate within 200 feet of any area posted specifically for swimming and delineated by markers. No-wake speeds are required within 200 feet of a boat ramp, boat dock. Boats left unattended at courtesy docks are subject to removal. Fireworks are prohibited. Litter must be put in trash containers if provided. Where containers are not provided, park users must take their trash out with them. Digging holes, removing or defacing geological formations, archeological relics or ruins, or vegetation (except for noncommercial use of edible wild plants, fruits, nuts, or fungi) is prohibited. Quiet hours are 11 pm to 6 am. Actions which alarm, anger, or disturb others are prohibited. Generators cannot be used during quiet hours. Failure to comply may result in expulsion from the park. Firearms may only be fired in areas designated for hunting or target practice. GREY WATER DUMPING IS PROHIBITED. Grey water must be disposed of at the dump station. Trails are open during daylight hours only. No camping, fires, or motorized vehicles are allowed on trails. Please use caution when crossing roadways. Cabin renters may check in after 3:00pm and check out by Noon. No smoking in cabins. Pets and pet carriers are not allowed inside or on the porches of cabins. Cabin renters are not allowed to grill or cook from the porch deck. The cabin must be clean prior to departure. Cabin renters are responsible for full payment of any damages incurred during their stay. Damages will be billed to the renter for payment. The area can be driven to by driving south of Plains, KS 6 miles on blacktop county road 5, then driving east on blacktop county road V. The area can also be driven to by driving 17 miles east of Highway 54, two miles north of the Cimarron River bridge east of Liberal, KS.Fee Cancellation DescKS Refund Policy Cabins: Cabins may be reserved from one year to three days in advance. Reservations require a $14.00 reservation fee. Cancellation 30 or more days prior to arrival date results in a 100 percent refund minus reservation fee. Cancellation 29 to 5 days prior to arrival results in a 100 percent refund minus one night rental fee and reservation fee. Cancellation 4 days or less prior to arrival date or after arrival date will result in all fees being forfeited. Campsites & Shelters: Campsites may be reserved anytime during the current calendar year up to two days in advance of a planned stay. Transaction fees are nonrefundable. Cancellation 15 days or more prior to arrival date results in a refund minus the transaction fee. Cancellation 14 to three days prior to arrival results in a refund minus one camping night and transaction fee. Cancellation less than three days prior to arrival results in a forfeiture of all fees. Cancellation within the minimum window of stay results in a forfeiture of all fees. If you notify the park office to shorten your stay within 14 to three days of arrival, this will result in a forfeiture of fees for one night camping. Payment: Payment in full is required at the time the reservation is made. Payments accepted online or by phone - Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Payments accepted at the park office - Visa, MasterCard, Discover, check, money order, or cash. There is a non-refundable $3.00 reservation fee per campsite, picnic shelter or facility. There is a non-refundable $14.00 reservation fee per cabin. Cancellations: All cancellation requests may be submitted online.
