The park is temporarily closed. California State Parks and Turlock Irrigation District are working to secure a new operator following the departure of the previous management. The park may reopen as soon as summer 2027.

About

Turlock Lake State Recreation Area sits in the Central Valley foothills east of Turlock, offering a water-focused escape centered around the 3,500-acre reservoir created by Don Pedro Dam. The 60-site campground occupies the shady south bank of the Tuolumne River, about a mile upstream from the lake itself, providing a quieter riverside setting while maintaining easy access to the main recreation area. The lake draws visitors primarily for water activities: swimming at the beach, boating, water skiing, and fishing for bass, catfish, and bluegill. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring with grate. The campground has flush toilets, pay showers, drinking water, and an RV dump station. Historically, reservations were available from late March through mid-September via ReserveCalifornia, with walk-in camping available the rest of the year.

Directions

From Highway 99 in Turlock, take the Taylor Road exit and head east. Taylor Road becomes Lake Road. Continue approximately 15 miles east to the park entrance at 22600 Lake Road, La Grange.
