Open — The campground is currently open year-round. Reservations are available through ReserveCalifornia. Some loops operate on different seasonal schedules: West Pinewood is reservable March through August and first-come, first-served otherwise; East Pinewood and Surfwood are reservable May through August and closed otherwise. Park gates are open 6:00 a.m. to sunset.

About

MacKerricher State Park Campground is located three miles north of Fort Bragg along California's scenic Mendocino coast. The campground features over 140 campsites divided into three distinct loops: East Pinewood, West Pinewood, and Surfwood. Sites accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers with a maximum length of 35 feet. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground offers coin-operated hot showers, restrooms, food storage lockers, drinking water, and a dump station, though no hookups are available. The park encompasses diverse habitats including beach, bluff, headland, dune, forest, and wetland ecosystems. Campers enjoy direct access to miles of beaches, tide pools teeming with marine life, and the wheelchair-accessible Haul Road trail that winds through coastal scenery. Cleone Lake, a former tidal lagoon, attracts over 90 species of birds and offers freshwater fishing. Seal watching is popular from rocky outcroppings, and the headlands provide excellent whale watching opportunities during winter and spring migrations. The park also features a visitor center and offers Junior Ranger programs during summer.

Directions

The park is three miles north of Fort Bragg on Highway 1. From the intersection of Mill Creek Drive and Highway 1, proceed west toward the park entrance.
