About

Ritchey Creek Campground is the primary camping area within Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, a 1,900-acre preserve located between Calistoga and St. Helena on Highway 29. The campground is nestled in a forested canyon along Ritchey Creek, with sites shaded by towering coastal redwoods, Douglas fir, tanoak, and madrone trees. The park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails, including the popular Redwood Trail that follows Ritchey Creek through fern-covered canyon floors. The geology is principally volcanic, with visible volcanic ash cliffs in upper Ritchey Canyon. A seasonal swimming pool operates on summer weekends. Beyond the standard tent and RV sites, the park also offers yurts and restored historic cabins bookable through ReserveCalifornia. Sites include fire rings and picnic tables, with flush restrooms and coin-operated showers centrally located. The campground is popular with both tent campers and RVers, though the narrow access road and smaller site pads favor smaller rigs. Dogs are permitted in the campground when leashed.

Directions

From Highway 29/128 between Calistoga and St. Helena, the park entrance is on the west side of the highway approximately 4 miles north of St. Helena and 4 miles south of Calistoga.
