About

Nestled in the Pleasant Valley of Richland County, Malabar Farm State Park Campground offers a rustic camping experience on the grounds of Ohio's only working farm within the state park system. The 15 primitive sites cater primarily to horseback riders but welcome all campers seeking a quiet retreat. Each site includes a gravel parking pad, fire ring, picnic table, and hitching post, with shared vault toilets and potable water available. The campground serves as a base for exploring 12 miles of bridle and hiking trails that traverse the 914-acre property. The park preserves the legacy of Louis Bromfield, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author who developed the farm using sustainable agricultural practices in the 1940s. Visitors can tour the Big House, explore the working farm with its seasonal livestock, and visit nearby geological features including Rock City Cave's sandstone formations. The experience here is distinctly primitive with no hookups, showers, dump station, or reliable cell service. Campers should come prepared to be self-sufficient while enjoying the pastoral setting of rolling farmland, mature hardwood forests, and spring-fed streams.
