About

Candle Creek Campground occupies a unique location at the confluence of the Metolius River and Candle Creek, marking the end of the Metolius Valley where the river transitions into rapids. This scenic riverside setting has made it a favorite among local campers and anglers seeking a more remote experience along the Metolius. The spring-fed Metolius River provides a stunning backdrop for fly-fishing, with clear, cold water supporting healthy populations of rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. The campground sits within diverse coniferous forest shaped by volcanic activity, with the headwaters of the Metolius originating at Metolius Springs at the base of Black Butte, a 3,076-foot cinder cone. For hikers, the area offers riverside trails through the forest, though note that trails beyond the campground enter the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation where hiking is prohibited. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Metolius Research Natural Area for bird watching, and the Metolius and Wizard Falls fish hatcheries. The campground features 10 campsites with vault toilets but no potable water, making it suitable for tent campers and very small vehicles only.
