Open for the 2026 season. Isle Royale National Park operates April 16 through October 31; the island is closed November 1 through April 15. From June 1 through Labor Day, stays are limited to 3 consecutive nights. Sites are first-come, first-served with a free overnight permit required.

About
Duncan Narrows Campground occupies a quiet, protected position in the narrows of Duncan Bay along Isle Royale's northeastern shore. The campground is accessible exclusively by water via canoe, kayak, or private boat. An overnight dock provides mooring with approximately 6 feet of depth under normal lake conditions. The campground features 3 individual tent sites and 2 three-sided shelters available on a first-come, first-served basis. Amenities are minimal but functional: seasonal composting toilets, non-potable water, food storage lockers to protect against wildlife, and standing grills where fires are permitted. There is no potable water, so visitors must bring their own drinking water or treat the non-potable supply. All trash must be packed out. Isle Royale's wilderness setting means rough, uneven terrain throughout the campground. Facilities are not ADA accessible. Pets are prohibited throughout the park, including on boats within park boundaries. A free overnight permit is required for all camping, obtained at a visitor center or self-registration station. From June 1 through Labor Day, stays are limited to 3 consecutive nights.
Directions
Duncan Narrows Campground is located in the narrows of Duncan Bay on the northeast end of Isle Royale National Park. The campground is accessible only by canoe, kayak, or private boat. There is no road or trail access from the mainland. Visitors must first reach Isle Royale via ferry or seaplane from Houghton or Copper Harbor, Michigan, or Grand Portage, Minnesota, then paddle or motor to Duncan Bay.
