In Utah, Arches/Grand Flat, Eastern Uinta Basin, and Canyonlands/Natural Bridges. * WHEN...For the Wind Advisory, from 11 AM to 9 PM MDT Thursday. For the Freeze Watch, from late Thursday night through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Lower Onion Creek Campground sits near the banks of the Colorado River along scenic State Route 128, about 22 miles east of Moab. The campground offers stunning views of the river canyon, the iconic Fisher Towers, and the area's captivating red rock formations with the La Sal Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop. The facility includes 21 individual campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to 10 people and two vehicles per site. Four group sites (A, B, C, and #7) accommodate 15-30 people and can be reserved through Recreation.gov. The campground features two boat ramps for river access, making it a popular launch site for rafting trips on the Colorado River. The river is known for dangerous undercurrents, and life jackets are essential for water activities. The location provides excellent access to nearby attractions including Fisher Towers for hiking and world-class rock climbing, numerous 4WD roads including the Onion Creek route, and various hiking trails along Highway 128. The campground is within 40 minutes of Arches National Park and about an hour from Canyonlands National Park, making it an ideal base for exploring Utah's canyon country.
Directions
From the junction of Highway 191 and State Route 128, drive east 22 miles along the Colorado River on SR 128. Turn left across from the Fisher Towers sign and drive 1.5 miles on the gravel road to the campground.
