Extreme Heat Warning issued August 2 at 8:59PM MST until August 3 at 8:00PM MST by NWS Tucson AZ
* WHAT...Thunderstorms will initially develop over the Mogollon Rim and other sky islands of Southeast Arizona during the early afternoon hours, then track southwest into the valleys of Southeast Arizona and become widespread during the late afternoon and early evening. The stronger storms will produce organized thunderstorm outflow winds between 40-50 mph, resulting in dense blowing dust with visibility between one-half and one mile and possibly a haboob with near-zero visibility. For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with temperatures 101 to 106 in Santa Cruz and Cochise counties and 107 to 112 elsewhere. Major to Extreme HeatRisk is expected. * WHERE...Eastern Cochise County below 5000 feet, Tucson Metro Area, Upper Gila River Valley, Upper San Pedro River Valley, and Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley. * WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 8 PM MST Monday. For the Blowing Dust Advisory, from 2 PM to 8 PM MST Monday. * IMPACTS...Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Warm overnight low temperatures of 84 to 90 degrees in the deserts will provide little to no relief from heat overnight. Warmest overnight low temperatures expected in the Western Deserts.

About
The Portal Bunkhouse is a historic two-room cabin constructed in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, one mile west of Portal, Arizona. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the structure represents one of the finest remaining examples of river-cobble masonry construction from that era. The cabin sits at 5,000 feet elevation at the entrance to Cave Creek Canyon, often called Arizona's 'Secret' Grand Canyon. The cabin accommodates up to four people and features electricity, running water, and heating. The bedroom contains a twin-over-double bunk bed and a single futon, while the bathroom includes a shower, sink, and toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and all cookware, utensils, and dishes. A propane grill and picnic table are available outside. Cave Creek Canyon is world-renowned for birding, particularly during summer months. Nearby attractions include Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historical Park, and historic Camp Rucker. Guests must bring food, sleeping bags or linens, pillows, towels, drinking water, toilet paper, and garbage bags.
Directions
From Tucson, take I-10 east for 139 miles to Road Forks, NM. Turn right (south) on US 80 and drive 28 miles to Portal Road. Turn right (west) and drive 7 miles through the town of Portal. Turn left on Forest Road 42 for approximately 1 mile. The Bunkhouse is the rock masonry building just past the Visitor Information Center.
