About
Two Island Lake Campground offers a quieter alternative to the busier campgrounds along the Gunflint Trail corridor. Located about 15 miles northwest of Grand Marais via County Roads 12, 8, and 27, the campground provides 38 sites including ADA-accessible options. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Solar-powered faucets supply potable water throughout the campground, and vault toilets and trash service are provided. The campground sits on Two Island Lake, a 753-acre lake with a maximum depth of 27 feet and 13 miles of shoreline. A concrete boat ramp allows easy water access for fishing walleye, smallmouth bass, and northern pike. For paddlers seeking a more remote experience, the Twin Lakes Canoe Route nearby offers backcountry camping similar to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness without the permit requirements. The Eagle Mountain Hiking Trail, four miles west of the campground, leads into the BWCAW to Minnesota's highest point at 2,301 feet. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., and maximum site occupancy is nine people. Dogs must remain leashed at six feet or shorter.
Directions
From MN 61 in Grand Marais, follow County Road 12 (Gunflint Trail) 3.7 miles north to County Road 8. Turn left and continue 6 miles to County Road 27. Turn right on 27 and continue 4 miles to the campground entrance.
