Weed Free Forage & Mulch Products Order for the Northern Region
It is illegal to possess, store or transport straw, hay, grain, seed or other forage or mulch products on Forest Service lands without documentation that the product is certified as “weed free” by a state certification process that meets or exceeds the North American Weed Free Forage standards.
Northern and Intermountain Regions Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness
This order implements visitor use requirements for activities within the Restricted Area and on the Restricted Trails, as required by the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area Management Plan (November 2003).
About
Tucked away in a heavily wooded, streamside setting in northwest Idaho, Kelly Forks Campground occupies a scenic location at the confluence of Kelly Creek and the North Fork Clearwater River. The campground offers 14 individual sites plus a group area, with a campground host on duty during the operating season. At 2,680 feet elevation, the site provides a cool retreat with swimming access and a hiking trail leading directly up to Flat Mountain. Kelly Forks is particularly renowned among anglers for its Blue Ribbon cutthroat trout stream, though all fishing is catch and release only. Horseback riding trails in the vicinity and abundant wildlife make this a well-rounded destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The remote location requires significant travel on gravel forest roads, with the Montana approach via Hoodoo Pass typically impassable from November through early July due to snow.
Directions
From Pierce, Idaho: Drive through town and turn left on French Mountain Road (FSR 250). Continue 48 miles on FSR 250 to the campground, located just past the Kelly Forks Work Center. From Superior, Montana: Travel west on FSR 250/Trout Creek Road, crossing Hoodoo Pass at the Idaho-Montana state line. Continue south approximately 29 miles to the campground. Note: Hoodoo Pass (6,000 ft) is typically impassable from November until early July due to snow.
