Hauser Sand Camping provides a unique dispersed camping experience for off-road vehicle enthusiasts in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The 25 campsites sit directly on the sand within the dunefield, offering immediate access to designated OHV routes including the Hauser Beach Sand Route, Bark Sand Route, and Coast Guard Sand Route. Standard sites accommodate up to five vehicles and 20 people, while two group sites handle 10 vehicles and 40 campers. This is primitive camping at its most basic. There are no restrooms, potable water, fire rings, picnic tables, or trash service. Campers must bring all necessary equipment including portable toilets, fire pans with sufficient clearance, water, and garbage bags for pack-out. A State of Oregon OHV permit is required for riding, and an OHV curfew is in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. The Pacific Ocean beaches are a short ride west via the Hauser Beach route, and the area features some of the tallest dunes in the recreation area. The nearby coastal forest and small lakes like Beale Lake provide additional exploration opportunities and wildlife viewing.

Directions

From North Bend, Oregon, travel north on Highway 101 for about 6 miles to Hauser Depot Road. Turn left onto Hauser Depot Road and proceed 0.25 miles. Turn left onto Sandy Way and cross the railroad tracks. Proceed 0.3 miles to the Hauser sand access next to Dune Bugs ATV Rentals. Sites 86-98 are accessed by turning left onto the sand; sites 74-85 are accessed by turning right onto Hauser Beach Sand Route.
