Manzanita Lake Campground sits at 5,890 feet elevation in the northwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park, just one mile from the park entrance. As the park's largest campground with 179 sites, it offers the most amenities and services of any park campground. The forested campground is shaded by Jeffrey and Ponderosa pines and provides impressive views of Lassen Peak, the park's largest volcano at 10,457 feet. The campground accommodates tent camping, RVs up to 40 feet, and offers both standard and group sites. Camping cabins ranging from one-room to two-room configurations and bunkhouses are also available. Sites include fire rings and picnic tables, and some offer pull-through parking. The facility is within walking distance of scenic Manzanita Lake, popular for catch-and-release fly fishing and non-motorized boating, with kayak rentals available nearby. Manzanita Lake serves as an excellent base for exploring the park's volcanic features and diverse ecosystems. The campground is near the Loomis Museum and Ranger Station, with access to numerous hiking trails suitable for all skill levels. The park contains over 300 active volcanic domes and hydrothermal features, and sits at the junction of the Cascade Mountains, Sierra Nevada, and Great Basin, supporting over 700 species of flowering plants and 250 species of wildlife.

Directions

From Redding, California, drive 48 miles east on State Highway 44. Turn right into Lassen Volcanic National Park at the Manzanita Lake entrance and continue one mile south on the park highway. A one-mile spur road on the south side of the highway dead-ends at the campground.
