About
Dogtown Lake Campground occupies a forested setting on the shore of Dogtown Lake in Arizona's Kaibab National Forest. Named for the prairie dog towns that once dotted the surrounding open areas, the lake sits at 7,050 feet elevation amid ponderosa pines with views of Bill Williams Mountain. The campground provides convenient access to Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim, about an hour north, and the towns of Williams and Flagstaff. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, crappie, and channel catfish. A guided nature trail circles the lake, and a hiking trail climbs to a scenic overlook atop Davenport Hill. The calm waters accommodate canoes, kayaks, and electric motors of one horsepower or less. Mountain biking opportunities exist throughout the surrounding forest. The campground features 50 individual sites, four double sites, and one group site that can host up to 80 people. Sites are level with both pull-through and back-in options. Amenities include vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, and trash service. No hookups, dump station, or showers are available.
Directions
From Williams, turn south on Fourth Street (County Road 73/Perkinsville Road) and drive about 3.5 miles to Forest Road 140. Turn left on FR 140 and continue approximately 3 miles to Forest Road 132. Turn left onto FR 132 and follow it to Dogtown Lake Campground. FR 140 and FR 132 are gravel roads.
